LECTORA - Not the Lecture You Expected

For standardization and assessment, the tool is Lectora. The eLearning software is very flexible in its design and operation, can be modified in production without going back through technology packaging, and most important, the tests can be added to the end of each learning module, and the results of each module can be merged to create the final instead of recreating similar questions on a new final exam. The absolutely fantastic option with the Lectora eLearning software is that the entire training, including quizzes and assessments can be saved and stored in the employees files AND IT REQUIRES NO PROGRAMMING!. Essentially, the learners’ success is packaged once the course is over, and available for his or her review, or even on their desktop outside of training, as a personal reference guide.

  1. Nicole, Lectora sounds like a very interesting technology tool to engage students in learning. I like the fact that it is similar to a Windows environment, which makes the product easier to use. Lecotra reminds me of a blend between PowerPoint and Softchalk. The ability to create interactive exercises keeps students engaged and helps them monitor their progress throughout the lesson. Adding quiz checkpoints also assists students in evaluating their understanding of the material, and the result of quizzes can be uploaded to course management systems. Is there a cost for the product? Thanks for sharing this multimedia tool.

  2. I appreciate your interest Linda, and yes, there is a cost. Everyone can get started on the 30 day free trial, then decide if they want the $99 packack for Personal use or all the up to $15K for every coursemill training Lectora has available.

  4. Nicole, thank you for sharing information about Lectora. I can see using this to test Health Information Mangement (HIM) professionals to see if they meet basic criteria to become certified. HIM students have to deal with learning the the body systems, for example. Lectora can be used to set up a module for each body system. Students will be able to refer to it as needed. I can remember setting all day at annual orientation to review fire safety, bloodborne pathogens, HIPAA privacy and security and other corporate requirements. It would be great to have those lectures set up in this system and let the staff work through it in their spare time. I like how it mirrors Windows template....seems easy to adapt to. I will be researching this one further for sure!

  5. I promise you are going to love it. I am glad you were drawn to the module creation, it happens to be the selling point because it shows the stakeholders progress, allows the designers to work in project teams and forecast staffing. More important, trainers having the ability to assess each section, which helps us set and reset the pace of the training, while at the same time immediately see who needs help and address those learning curves.

When you get into creating assessments, you will see how tight you can set the pass/fail. Obviously, in the medical field, you can set the test so that one wrong answer is a fail, but in data entry for example, I can be more lenient. There are also a many types of tests that can be created but I will save that for your exploration.

  6. Hi Nicole, I reviewed the Lectora presentation and found it to appear easy and fun to use. I also see that it can be used with both Apple and Window computers. Do you know if the presentations or lectures that are created can be interchangeable? Meaning, if I create the presentation on an Apple, can I then go to a Windows computer and continue working on it or do I have to finish the project on one or the other?

I also like the price. $99 is not that much since I paied more for that to install the newest version of Internet Explorer on my PC. What is the differenct between the personal package and the business package? Thank you for sharing.

  7. Tabby the price is really the big sell for what you can produce with $99. An oil & gas company I worked for paid $600 for me to have a two-day, 16-hour training. That was followed with online support during my production design phase, right through to the end when I was ready to publish the training and save it as an accessible, executable within the learners training profile and deliver the training package on a blast email. Sounds complicated right? I thought so too but when you have a professional by your side it really is very quick and easy.
